What do slot machine payouts mean on sites like Ice Casino? How are these calculated? Slots have different payout systems. However, they all either pay in cash or coins.
Understanding the payout system of a slot machine is crucial because it helps you make good betting decisions. This guide will give you a fundamental grasp of how payouts work in slots.
What Is the Payline?
A payline is a winning position of symbols in the proper order. The very first slot machines only have one payline where you must match three symbols in a row. Modern slots have more than that. Now, you can expect them to have at least nine paylines. Some have 243, and others have thousands.
To win, you must have matching symbols in exact positions as shown in the payline table of a slot machine. Typically, you must have three symbols in the right position in the first three reels from the left.
If you do have this, you get paid a certain amount. You get paid more if you manage to have four symbols in the right spot (one in each reel of the first four reels). Finally, you get the biggest payout if you get five symbols on five reels at the specific spot where they are supposed to be.
However, not all symbols pay the same amount of money. There are common symbols like letters, fruits, or numbers, which pay very low. Sometimes, you will not even get the value of your bet for those wins. So, you need to line up the high-value symbols in the right order. These are the payline or combinations that pay the most money.
There are two common special symbols in slot machines today:
- Wild – a symbol that replaces or substitutes for missing symbols to form a winning line.
- Scatter – these are symbols that give you free spins or activate a bonus round. The scatters are called like that because they do not have to be in a specific position to trigger a bonus. They can be “scattered.”
Since there are many symbols in slots, it is difficult to form these winning lines. The trick is to just keep spinning. If you get lucky, you may even form the winning combination of the jackpot, if the slot has a function like this.
What Are the Numbers Beside the Icons?
If you go to the payout page of a slot machine, you will find numbers like 5x, 100, or something similar. These numbers represent how much you will win.
For example, if the symbol says 3x and you win 100, it means that if you land three of these same symbols on a payline, you win 100 coins. Some slots do not use coins, but currency. So, you may see $25 instead of 100.
For POLICE 1, if it lands four times on a payline, you will get paid 300. The question now is: is it $300 or 300 coins? This depends on the slot, you can toggle the values and see the payout either in coins or currency. It is also important to know that the payout already includes your bet.
What Is a Bet Level?
A bet level is an adjustment in the bet size. In slot machine parlance, you are betting a coin or token. if you bet two tokens or coins for a payline, you essentially increase your bet level by one. In many slot machines, you can adjust the bet level up to ten times.
What does this mean? Let us say that the value of each coin is $1. If you want to adjust the bet level to 10, you will be $10 per payline. If the slot has 9 pay lines, and you bet on all of them, then you wager $90 per spin.
Adjusting the bet level also adjusts the prize of course. Some slots may not show an adjustment because the payout is expressed in the multiplier. For example, if the payout is 100x, then it only means that whatever the bet level is, you will be paid 100x your bet for that payline.
Slot machine payouts aren’t complicated at all. The numbers on the images or icons provide players with transparency. The next time you play, it would be a good idea to visit the payout table first and then decide if it is worth the risk.
